Benefits

The Agency offers a competitive wage and benefit package.  An example of benefits offered include:

Medical, Dental, and Vision Insurance:  The Agency provides fully paid insurance coverage for employee and dependents through Vision Service Plan and a Dental Health Plan.  Some medical plans offered by PERS Health are fully paid for employee and dependents.

Group Life Insurance  The Agency provides, at no cost to the employee, group life and AD&D insurance at $100,000.

Retirement:  The Agency belongs to California Public Employee Retirement System (CallPERS) and has a retirement formula of 2.5% at 55.  The employee currently pays a small portion of the contribution for retirement.   In addition, the Agency offers two deferred compensation plans which allow for the sheltering of current income for payment later as supplemental retirement income.  SOCWA matches a designated amount each year to the deferred compensation plan.

Paid Vacation:  96 hours per year for years 1-5; 120 hours per year for years 6-10; and 160 hours per year after 10 years of service.

Holidays:         Twelve  (12) paid per year.

Sick Leave:     Earned at the rate of eight (8) hours per month.

Other Benefits:  Other benefits include credit union privileges, job related education assistance, and when required, uniforms are provided and maintained by the Agency.


AGENCY INFORMATION

SOCWA is a public agency which is responsible for wastewater management on a regional scale.  They are non-taxing authorities, which are comprised of ten member agencies that maintain local wastewater collection systems.

SOCWA is governed by a ten member Board of Directors appointed by each of the respective member agencies.  Key decisions regarding project participation and financing are made by SOCWA’s Board with the concurrence of the Boards and Councils of the member agencies.

SOCWA’s General Manager has the job of mobilizing resources such as money, people and materials to accomplish the treatment plant's objectives.  Working under the General Manager is the Assistant General Manager/Director of Operations who exercises direct authority over all plant functions and personnel.  Plant functions are divided into three divisions - Operation, Maintenance, and Laboratory.

SELECTION PROCESS

A SOCWA application form must be completed.  Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of Agency application but may be attached.  Applications which are incomplete may be eliminated from consideration.  All applications will be evaluated on the candidate's qualifications with the most competitive applicants being invited to participate in an oral interview.  The selection process will include an evaluation of the applicants’ ability to perform the duties as described in the job description and his/her qualification and background.  References will be checked prior to any offer of employment to verify information given during the interview process.All applicants offered employment with the Agency must successfully pass a pre-employment physical examination and drug screen prior to the first day of employment.
